Making sun hats is a way for me to encourage families to go explore, play outside, and be adventurous. I love to think of the many exciting places these sun hats get to go. Having the right equipment for a day outside can make the experience enjoyable for the whole family, which in turn, can foster life long love for outdoor adventures.
There are always a few staples that I know will make our outdoor play time enjoyable. Water, snacks, sunscreen, sun hat, change of clothes. I figure, the less I pack, the less I have to carry, and the less I have to clean up later. I guess I'm an outdoor minimalist.
Water and Snacks
I bet you're probably better at finding yummy nutritious snacks to bring along than I am. I'm trying to learn some tips from Amy Rene Newman about packing simple healthy snacks. She does a great job of packing fresh, nutritious, easy to carry portions. And don't forget your water!
Sunscreen
I've been on the hunt lately for a good, water resistant, no chemical, affordable sunscreen. Here's a couple resources comparing store bought sunscreens: healthy choices and ones to avoid . I have a friend who makes his own sunscreen and it is amazing! (I'll share more about that some day soon)
Extras
I try to keep my extra's to the bare minimum. If we're planning on sitting, then a beach blanket is nice. If there is water anywhere near by, change of clothes is a must. I usually don't like to bring a lot of toys along. When my girls were little, I decided whatever toys they could/would carry would be enough. Getting them started early as a part of the whole process of packing, carrying, cleaning up, makes them feel important, and keeps them involved with being a part of the household.
Sunhat
