The Miracle of a Sunflower

Ginger planted some sunflower seeds by the mailbox this spring. They were from our neighbor who saved them from her sunflowers last year. Ginger decided to plant them right up by the mailbox to give a greeting to our mail lady everyday.

I've been so filled with amazement, knowing that all she did was plant the seed, and water it. God did the rest. We always plant the seed in faith for what's to come, it's often not fun, it's dirty, and then you can't even see any sign of growth for weeks. Then, in faith, you water. You water, you water and you water. Slowly you see the leaves get bigger, the stem get higher. But it's not even something you can watch happen. It grows so slowly. Bit by bit. There's nothing you can do to make it grow any faster. All the while you keep watering. And then, the miracle happens, a sunflower saying hello to you with it's sunny smile!

How much in life is like a sunflower? Parenting kids, building a business or a relationship, growing a garden. We can't make anything happen on our own. We plant the seeds, we water them, but it's our faith in God, knowing he is going to honor our diligent watering into our tasks to make them bloom. Be patient, young grasshopper, and you will harvest flowers!

The sun has finally come back to us after two full weeks of the most rain we’ve seen in a loooong time. So much flooding so much chaos, mixed with amazing rainbows and the promise of a spring full of wildflowers.
