weekending

We had such a nice, relaxing, rainy weekend.  Lots of inside time, with little hints of outside time.  I spent hours on the couch crocheting.  Perfecting some new crochet rosettes, and almost finishing the sweater I'm making for Ruby.  I had a great date with Ginger at the kitchen table, playing UNO while our lemon bars cooked.  We tooked a refreshing walk at the beach with some good friends, and met some new friends (missionaries from Ethiopia!).

Blue Corduroy's etsy shop is now stocked with some new girl's spring dresses.  Crochet Rosettes will be available soon.

I hope the new week goes well for you!

{books &} Little House on the Prairie

how many times have you read {the little house on the prairie} series?
when was the last time?
i still remember very fondly those quiet hours in my cozy space out on the prairie.
the world you get transported to when your involved in a good book is priceless.

Becca (bright haven)

the simple, yet feminine look of the prairie is a big part of me.
the prairie look has inspired so much of our style throughout history.
i find myself always drawn to those little floral calico's and modest lines.
there's a sort of humility to life on the prairie that is so wonderful.

i read {little house} when i was young, third or fourth grade maybe.
then i read them aloud to my girls when they were only 3 & 6,
and they were both glued to my side chapter after chapter.
now my oldest is reading them for the first time to herself.

there are so many amazing books out there
i sometimes grow faint with excitement of wanting to read them all, right now!
good books are like good food. they feed your mind and make it big and strong.
and likewise, bad, mindless books can make your mind lazy and fat.

i hope for children {of all ages} to feast on the best of the best!

hot off the press

i have some new tea dresses for fall. the "tea dress" is an everyday dress. it's a party dress. it's a play dress. it's a "can i wear it to bed?" dress.

for fall, i went with a slightly deeper color palette. there's 4 different sizes, starting with a toddler version of 2t/3t on up to an 8/9.

each one is unique. one of a kind.

each one is made from a recycled bedsheet (most are vintage)((maybe why they're comfortable enough to wear to bed?))

elastic at the waist and neck increase the comfort, and ease of dressing one's self.

the tea dress. made for hospitality.

evolution

One of my favorite parts of sewing the same item, many times over, is watching that item evolve. I figure out how to streamline production, how to adjust the fit, how to change the silhouette, and how to make it even cuter.

The Tie Dress started out simple, with just a ruffle at the bottom for punch.

It has now evolved into an even more flattering, vibrant, summer gown. I've kept the basic idea, added an extra ruffle across the chest, and made the waistline an empire.

The Blue Corduroy Elves are busy beginning new designs that are already excited to undergo an evolution of their own.
