Shipping Day

Feeling pretty jealous of the hats I've been selling.  They get to go to some awesome new homes.  Last week I had orders ship to Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Italy, and Canada!  All from this quiet little corner of the world I call home.  Some day, though, I may insist on delivering these hats in person!

Cyber Monday Sale and Stuff

Hoping everyone had a fabulous T-day.  My little family was sick, but we enjoyed taking the day to relax, and be cozy together.

Use code CYBER15 in my shop on Monday to get 15% and a head start on your Christmas shopping!  The shop is packed with fun new stuff for winter, and I'm adding more everyday!

In other news, I finally got a smart phone!  I feel so grown up.  My favorite part is now being able to join in on all the Instagramming fun.  If you do instagram too, please, come find me and introduce yourself! (I'm emily_bluecorduroy)  It may take me a while to get used to taking pictures of everyday things, but I'm hopeful I'll warm right up to the routine.  So far I'm totally loving seeing my friends daily photo updates.

sunhats! because summer's almost here!!

Are you ready for summer?  We sure are!
To help you with the necessities of long days in the sun,
I've made up a fresh new batch of super cute sunhats for your little ones.

These hats can be made in sizes newborn to 24 months.
They are made from lightweight cotton,
some vintage prints, some modern prints.
They have a chin strap, because I don't know about your little ones,
but mine often tried to pull theirs off,
and once they find they can't they seem to just give up trying.
What I might like the best about these hats though,
is that they are washable!!

Available in the shop now.  Grab yours before they're all gone.

pastel spring dresses

I just love pastels right now.  So soft.  So feminine.  Looking at them just warms me up inside.  So, I couldn't resist making this limited edition of springtime dresses in a rainbow of vintage pastels.

Perfectly pastel.  Soft and feminine.  Upcycled vintage fabrics.  Striped ruffles.  Limited edition.

goals and baby steps

My thoughts from the last post have matured into a new goal for blue corduroy.  Remember, I was planningn on making larger quantities of items for my shop?  Well, I'm going one step further.  I'm setting a goal.  It isn't a super major life changing goal, or even an out of reach goal.  Just a humble baby step goal.  But that's how I role.

I also just recently read somewhere that if you say your goals out loud, to somebody, you are 100% more likely to acheive said goal.  So here goes:

I'm going to fill my esty shop with 120 products.

I'm actually not too far from it, I'm at 80 products right now.  See on the right side of the screen shot, where it says "Shop Sections", just below that it says "Shop home 80 items".

Now, I know this is just a baby step goal, and I haven't actually said out loud any bigger goals than that, but for now I'm just taking it one baby step goal at a time.

As I said in my previous post, I've got some fun product ideas to make and fill my shop with, but I'd love to hear of any ideas you would like to see in my shop!

pillows {and thoughts} for a new year

Since the new year, I've been happily hooking away on these pillows here.  It's slightly overwhelming considering the endless color and pattern combinations you can make on a crocheted pillow.

These pillows have taught me a few things about what I want for my little etsy shop this year.

One thing I discovered was that making large batches of things really exercised my creativity in a new way!  I was able to really explore and dig deeper, rather than feeling like I needed to move on to the next product idea on my list for fear of losing my creativity.  It was actually the opposite, where by making quantities of the same thing, I was getting even more ideas.

This new year I have some exciting products I plan on making, and I plan on making them in larger quantities!

fall scarves: shop update

It's starting to really feel like fall, isn't it?  It feels like the right time to be making (and wearing) some fun new scarves!!  Here's just a few of the new colors and designs I have added to the shop.  Including new flower pins!  There seems to be an infinite variety of colors and styles when it comes to scarves, so don't be surprised if you keep seeing new ones popping up over here.  And if you have any favorite combo's you want to tell me about, please do!

Another good reason to start stocking up on these scarves is that I'm preparing for the upcoming Stitch Market this holiday season!  It will be held Dec. 6th and 7th.  See here for more details.  Lindsey and I always enjoy putting this fun market together.

new items in the shop and progress

The shop has a couple new items in it this week!

I am totally in love with this bold black and white chevron striped pillow.  My mother in law told me years ago that every room benefits from a touch of black.  She was so right!  This pillow looks good wherever I put it.  It now sits in the shop next to the other crocheted pillows ready to cozy up your couch.

The last infant sunhats I made didn't last very long in the shop, so here's a new offering of ruffly sunshine.  This hat is made to fit an infant from 3 to 9 mos. (or a head measuring 16" to 18" circumference). It is made from, you guessed it, vintage sheets and a bit of Amy Butler aqua and orange polka dots.  I only made two of these, find them here with the other child hats in my shop.

My shop is continually growing and improving.  One thing I am always striving for is quality product photos.  Not only of individual items, but how the photos of each item look with all the other product photos in my shop, as a whole unit.  I want my shop to look like it all goes together.  As I take new product photos, I am constantly trying new areas to shoot in, with various backgrounds and props, trying to find the perfect "blue corduroy" look.

If I already have a photo of an item, I don't always take a new one, just because I've made the item again.  To save time, I'll just use what I have.  But this photo, taken 2 years ago, was in need of an update.  Two years ago, all my shop photo's had an outdoorsy look.  But now, it didn't quite fit in anymore.

Here's is the updated photo.  New crisp white background.  New form to hang the hat on.  New camera even!  I've also been playing around with a few props here and there for interest.  I thought these classic books looked real cute with the colors of this hat.

I would love to add in more live model shots.  There's nothing cuter than seeing a beautiful little girl with something darling on.  That's next on my list.  What makes a product photo stand out to you?

summer sunhats

I have put my crochet hook aside for a while.  I can feel summer getting closer and closer.  It's no secret that I love a floppy hat.

These summer hats for girls were so fun to put together.  I made the pattern to fit a girl anywhere from 3 to 7 years old, pretty much any girl who would fit a hat circumference of 22".

They have two fun vintage lace stripes on the brim.  And they tie under the chin (such a necessity).

As usual, I've put some vintage sheet material as the liner.  I couldn't resist.

These are now available in the shop.

Coming soon....infant sunhats....with ruffles!
